Heard an interesting interview whilst  listening to radio4 yesterday morning:

It reminded me of the Key Note speech by Mark Major at Lux Live when he mentioned the fact that whilst we are using more energy efficient light sources i.e. LEDs we are now exploiting this to implement more extravagant facade and exterior schemes. And whilst all this additional lighting may assist advertisers, there is now various medical research encouraging the restriction of LED lighting in particular as this is affecting sleep patterns.

I remember reading once that in the late 18th & early 19th centuries you  could smell London before you could see it and whilst that may not conjure up an entirely pleasant view, I think it is important to consider what we are losing by the over use of artificial light.
