Completed 2017 (whilst Intermediate Designer at Light Bureau)
Located beside the redeveloped Cardiff bay complex, which locates the Welsh
National assembly building, this large multi-story car park façade was developed
to evoke the nautical spirit of the buildings location.
It was developed in 2006 and implemented in 2007, when LEDs where still
relatively low power, very expensive & not wholly reliable for exteriors, we
therefore decided upon an more tried and tested lamp technology, T8
fluorescent fixtures. Using a combination of 4000K and blue lamps coupled with
DALI & DMX control within a Norka batten this project posed a number of
technical and installation problems to solve.
Base structures designed the magnificent steel & tensile fabric structure, with
dimining expertise being provided by Control Lighting and the fixtures from
The overall final effect of a flowing wave patterns provided subtle lighting effects
with restrained visual impact. And to our knowledge is still working well 10
